Gingerbread showcase enthralls young, young at heart

Wilmot, N.H. – The Woodland Gnome’s Cottage, crafted by Margaret Monto of Wilmot, won the People’s Choice Award at the Wilmot Community Association’s second annual Gingerbread Showcase held Saturday, Nov. 17 at the WCA’s Red Barn in Wilmot Flat.

Children, teens, adults, groups and professional bakers entered a total of 16 eatable structures in the contest.

A woodland wonderland setting designed by event coordinator Amy Gignac set off each structure. Wood carvings by Wilmot artist David Lorden were included. The judges were Susan Nye, local writer, instructor, and chef, and Steve Potoczak, principal of New London Elementary School.

Upcoming WCA events:

  • Saturday, Dec. 1 – Holiday Craft Fair, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., at the Outing Club in New London
  • Sunday, Dec. 9 – Wilmot Express, starting at 3 p.m., at the Wilmot Volunteer Fire Department

The WCA’s office in the Red Barn, 64 Village Road, Wilmot Flat, is open from 9 a.m. to noon Mondays and Wednesdays; 3 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays; and the last Saturday of each month.
