The American Red Cross 2012 EMS Heroes Award was given to Sunapee’s Deputy Fire Chief Dana Ramspott for saving the life of a man who had cardiac arrest while driving a delivery truck in Newport, New Hampshire.

Last summer, Ramspott was a passenger in the truck when the driver went into sudden cardiac arrest leaving his foot on the accelerator. Reacting instantly, Ramspott maneuvered the driver off the controls and safely stopped the vehicle before harm came to other people and property. He then removed the victim from the truck and immediately started CPR. The patient made a complete recovery.
