It’s time to sign up for Sunapee Green-Up

Here’s an opportunity to be outdoors, help the community, and get a good workout, depending on the route you choose. Sunapee’s community-wide clean up is coming. Sunapee Green-Up Day is Saturday, May 7 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. The rain date is Sunday, May 8.

The clean-up brings together families, neighbors and friends, and student and community groups–all pitching in to pick up litter and trash along Sunapee roads and highways and to give organizational support.

Like last year, after the clean up volunteers will gather at Sunapee Harbor at noon for a picnic. Local restaurants–Sunapee Pizza Chef, Sunapee Pizza Market, and Wildwood Smokehouse–will provide the food and the Sunapee Seniors, the desserts.

The more volunteers, the better

Sunapee Green-Up Day attracted 200 volunteers in 2010, and organizers hope more take part this year.

Rose Batts, the coordinator of the zone captains, said the Green-Up needs more people for the more demanding routes, such as routes 11 and 103 that have inclines and banks. She is putting out a call for volunteers to sign up for these more physically challenging sections of state highway. People usually work in pairs along both sides of the road in these areas, Batts said.

You will find a safety check list, helpful tips, road maps, and sign-up information on the Green-Up website.
