The New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT) is discontinuing the  511 Travel Information phone service as of today, December 1st, until a redesign of the system is completed.

“Consumer feedback and market research has shown that the current 511 phone system is not providing the level of quality service desired by travelers,” according to the NHDOT announcement. “The NHDOT is planning to improve its customer service with a newly upgraded system that is scheduled to be put into service in late 2011.”

Both the Web page and mobile device applications for the 511 Traveler Information System continues to be available. All traffic and roadway-related reports will be displayed on the real-time traffic Web site www.511nh.com.

The Google Maps-based Web site offers motorists traffic conditions on all state routes, interstate highways and the Spaulding and Everett Turnpikes. The Web site displays incidents, construction, weather information and special events, as well as travel speeds along the New Hampshire’s major highway corridors.

The mobile 3G application, which can also be accessed through the www.511nh.com Web site, and then saved as a favorite on the mobile device, will continue to provide text-based route reports for incidents, construction and maintenance activities and roadway conditions.
