Lake Sunapee Turkey Trot: Registration is Open

We’re at that time of the year when announcements about  holiday-related events seem to leap frog each other and flow quickly together, one after another.

First, Halloween: In Sunapee, Central Street will again this year be closed to vehicular traffic to allow for safe trick-or-treating on Halloweeen, according to the Sunapee Rec. Department. A candy drive to help those that live in that area is underway. People can donate bags of unopened candy that will be distributed for the event to Central Street residents. Candy drop-boxes are located at the Sunapee Town Office building and Abbott Library. For more information on how you can help, call Kelly Petrin, Sunapee, at 603-863-0905.

Thanksgiving: Registration for the 3rd Annual 2009 Lake Sunapee Turkey Trot is now open. Director Scott Blewitt of the Sunapee Recreation Department is encouraging people to sign up now via the Turkey Trop website, If you sign up early, you get a free t-shirt.

“In 2008, 533 runners and walkers joined the fun,” wrote Blewitt in a broadcast Rec Dept. email. Looking forward to this year’s race on Thursday, November 26,  Blewitt added, “We are hopeful many more will add this as a family tradition bringing our total to 700!!” And for the “little turkey,” there is a 1K Chicken Run. Last year, 70 young ones participated.
