Sunapee Rec Dept Says: Join the Fun

The Sunapee Recreation Department offers an array of summer activities and regularly informs people about upcoming events via broadcast emails. Subscribe to Rec Dept. (and other town news) via the town website.

“I hope everybody is getting their big wheels ready for the 1st annual ‘Don’t tell the kids I broke the big wheel’ race down infamous Burkehaven hill! and some other wacky stuff ,” wrote Rec Director Scott Blewitt in a recent message.

The big wheel race will be held on Friday, July 3 at 6 p.m., and is for ages 16 and older. Participants are asked to bring a partner, helmet, elbow and knee pads and a first aid kit!

Then, on Saturday, July 4 the Sunapee Parade starts at 11 a.m. Participants wanted: Classic cars, kids on gators, tractors, motorcycles (from Hogs to scooters!) marching bands, and clowns, etc! The themes is “The Sound of Music.” Floats meet at St. Joachim’s church on Route 11 at 10:30 a.m.

After dusk on Saturday night (July 4), there will be fireworks. “Enjoy the show at Sunapee Harbor!” Blewitt added,  and “thank-you to all that donated towards the $10,000 goal!”

Blewitt also reminds residents about other rec department programs: Swimming/snorkeling lessons, tennis, archery, canoeing, sailing, soccer camp, the Frenzy in the Forest, and  teen adventure trips.  And, tickets go on sale July 11 at 9 a.m. at the Sherburne Gym for the Aerosmith tribute band concert with “Draw the Line.”
