The  longest running bike race in New England, the Lake Sunapee Bike Race was held last Saturday with a start and finish at Mount Sunapee Resort at Mount Sunapee State Park in Newbury, NH.

Here are the race results via www.bikereg.com.

As for a local competitor, in the Masters 55+ category, Dan O’Neill of Newport (Pinnacle/Cycle Depot) came in 8th with a time of 2:30.

The race was presented by Sunapee-S&W Sports-Continental Paving Racing Team and the Claremont Cycle Depot Bike Club.

According to the Claremont bike club, the race has been held every year since 1974, except in 2002 when the area was hit with a late snowstorm.

For many years it’s been considered The New England Championship Road Race. There’s a race for most United States Cycling Federation (USCF) categories and citizens’ races, too. The higher categories ride more of the hilly, challenging laps that loop up and down the  hills around Lake Sunapee.
