Budget Choices Amidst Economic Uncertainty

“The uncertainty of the state and national economies and what the stimulus package from Washington will look like are all unknowns,” writes Senator Bob Odell in this week’s Capital Comments. “What is understood by everyone is that there will be less money to spend over the next two years than in the original budget for the current biennium. It will be a lot less money.”

The proposed spending numbers are in for SB2 towns and school districts across the region, and, for the most part, they tell a similar story.

The proposed Milford town operating budget is up 0.4 percent. Toss in the warrant articles and the spending increase is still less then 1 percent.

On the school side in Milford, practically the only new spending in the budget comes from the state’s mandate to include public kindergarten.
