CNN Airs TV Premiere of I.O.U.S.A.

In homes across NH, statehouses across the country and in the nation’s capitol, economic alarms are going off at every turn. just reported: In 2008, the U.S. lost more jobs than in any year since 1945.

In December, more than half-million people lost their jobs, “indicating a free-fall in the economy just days before President-elect Barack Obama takes office,” according to the article by Shobhana Chandra.

So, it’s a good time to turn on and tune in…

This weekend, CNN/U.S. will air the television premiere of the acclaimed documentary I.O.U.S.A., along with an unscripted panel discussion with policy leaders that will examine the various economic solutions now being discuss in Washington.

The program will feature an exclusive televised version of the nonpartisan film I.O.U.S.A. The film examines the U.S. government’s fiscal landscape and the consequences for the national economy.

Tune in to CNN/U.S. on Saturday, January 10 at 2 p.m. or  Sunday, January 11 at 3 p.m. The program will be hosted by Ali Velshi and Christine Romans, co-anchors of CNN’s Your $$$$$, the network’s weekend business roundtable program.

Throughout the broadcast, Velshi and Romans will engage a distinguished group of panelists: Pete Peterson, Chairman of the Peter G. Peterson Foundation and former U.S. Commerce Secretary; Dave Walker, President and CEO of the Peter G. Peterson Foundation and former U.S. Comptroller General; Alice Rivlin, noted economist and former Director of the Office of Management and Budget; and Bill Bradley, a Managing Director of Allen & Company and former U.S. Senator and Democratic presidential candidate in discussions about issues raised in the film and their ties to current economic events.

Since its premiere at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival, I.O.U.S.A. has garnered rave reviews from critics. It has been nominated for a Critics Choice Award and is on the short list for an Oscar nomination for Best Documentary Feature.

  2. Let’s be sure to thank Obama for creating this financial crisis during the campaign. How bad was the economy a year ago when he started comparing it to the great depression in order to get elected? Answer: thriving! Thank you Barry and your worshipping media. Now let’s see if you can turn around. Hint: shut up and get out of the way. It’s the PEOPLE who determine our country’s economic success, not the government — they can only tax and spend the people into hard times — not into good times.
