The Sunapee Community Coffeehouse resumes this Friday night, September 5, with a performance by local favorites, the guitar duo–Gerry Putnam and Tom Pirozzoli. Music starts at 7 PM at the Sunapee Methodist Church, 17 Lower Main Street. The space is easily accessible; the entrance is at the back of the building. The CoffeeHouse passes the hat for the musicians. There is no cover charge.

The Sunapee Community Coffeehouse began in 2004 with a mission “to encourage and foster professional and amateurs musicians in a family-style, listening room environment where new and seasoned performers can offer songs and stories to attentive audiences.” By fostering an “attentive and respectful audience,” compensating musicians by passing the hat, and sustaining the series through volunteers makes the Coffeehouse successful, says Randy Richards.

In 2005, the CoffeeHouse won the “Best of New Hampshire 2005” award for its Open Mic night.

More about Putnam-Pirozzoli and the Coffeehouse line-up:

Sept. 5: Gerry Putnam & Tom Pirozzoli – Tom is a skilled performer and singer-songwriter, honored by Musician Magazine as a winner in their “Best Unsigned Band” contest. Gerry has been playing and performing with jazz, fusion, rock and R&B groups since the mid 70′s. Together, they bring a lyrical, sophisticated sound of “classical guitar with the earthy soul of steel string acoustic” whether they’re playing original tunes, Bach, Brubeck or Gershwin.

Tom‘s current focus is instrumental guitar, rooted in a folk tradition that uniquely combines with jazz, classical and pop for a truly original sound. His fifth recording—Travels—spent weeks on the Top Forty AAA charts and was the featured release at Tower Records. In addition to his musical talent, Tom is an accomplished painter and one can view his art as the backdrop to the duo’s website and the cover art to their musical CD Conversation Without Words. Tom lives in Goshen, NH.

Gerry, after formal training in jazz and classical guitar at Berklee College of Music, went on to study at Ithaca College and with a variety of private instructors. He’s produced and performed on dozens of recordings including Dateline NBC segments, award winning folk records and best selling classical works. Gerry lives in North Sutton, NH, where he owns and operates CedarHouse Sound and Mastering, a professional recording studio.

Sept. 12: Cosy Sheridan – You’ll find yourself somewhere in the uncharted territory of Mary-Chapin Carpenter, Dr. Ruth, and Deepak Chopra when you’re at a Cosy Sheridan concert. She has a unique talent for combining fascinating stories with a beautiful voice.

Sept 19: Chris Peters – Good times and fun music influenced by Elvis and The Beatles.

Sept 26: Chimu’s – Peruvian folklore music with Guillermo Seminario, Mario Montalvo and Agusto Soto, who come to Sunapee directly from Cusco, Peru to share their passion for Peruvian/Andean pan flutes, guitar, drum and charango. This is their first visit to the states.

Oct. 3: Carl Cacho-Negrete – Carl Cacho has established himself as one of the most talented and respected singer/songwriters in New England. He was a Boston Music Award nominee for Outstanding New Singer/Songwriter. His songs and disarming performing style make him a favorite at venues across the Northeast.

Oct. 10: EJ Tretter.  Oct. 17: Mink Hills Band – Ted, Val and Company play a delightful evening of folk music. A must-see local favorite. Oct. 24:Fat Hands – Two brothers playing guitar, base, keyboard and vocals. “Their songwriting and performances are stunningly sincere and professional.” Oct. 31: Open Mic.  Nov.7: The Larry Dougher Band. Nov 14: Lunch at the Dump, a combination of bluegrass and swing. Cool sound from the seacoast. Nov 21: Cody Michaels – Solo Piano.
