Some in Sunapee look at wind power

There’s growing interest in Sunapee in wind energy. A proposal to install a “small wind” turbine to generate energy for a single residence came before the zoning board July 10, 2008. You can read about the proposal in the zoning board minutes on the Town of Sunapee website.A few years ago, when the citizen forum Sunapee Invite held a forum on living-off-the-grid, the meeting room at the town office building was packed. Local interest in the topic was high, and many arrived with lots of knowledge and practical experience to share…about energy conservation, hybrid vehicles and the use of eco-friendly energy sources, bio-diesel, solar and geo-thermal.

This summer the town formed a Wind Turbine Committee, with members from the planning board and zoning board of adjustment. The committee’s first meeting is August 21 at 6 p.m. in the meeting room at the town offices, 23 Edgemont Road, Sunapee. The published agenda includes:

  • Correspondence with Town Attorney
  • Preliminary comments from participants
  • Election of committee chair and secretary
  • Development of committee charge
  • Work schedule for the committee
  • Schedule for future meetings
